Unlocking My Samsung Galaxy Y (S5360) / Galaxy Y Duos (GT-S6102) / Galaxy ACE Duos (GT-S6802)

Phones being lock up to a network provider means you don't have the freedom to choose a different network provider. 

This step by step guide is intended for those who want to unlocked their Samsung Galaxy Y (S5360) device for free. 

This guide is also applicable to Galaxy Y Duos (GT-S6102) and Galaxy ACE Duos 
(GT-S6802)

Requirements:

1) USB Cable / Micro SD Card Reader
2) Rooted Samsung Galaxy Y (Part 1)
3) Computer/Laptop for downloading and transferring of files
4) At least 80% charged battery

Before we start keep in mind that I am not responsible for any damage/data loss etc.
Read all and follow the steps carefully.


PART 1  Rooting the device 
(if the phone is already rooted please proceed to PART 2)

To unlock the device, it needs to be rooted first.
Rooting is the term used to gain privileges that are not made accessible for you by the manufacturer.

Important: Rooting will erase all the data in the phone memory. This data includes phone book, messages, images, calendar, music, application etc.

Backup all the important data. You can sync your calendar and phone book to your google account. For messages and applications you can download a backup utility from playstore. For images and music you can transfer it to the memory card.

Step1:  Backup (as i said earlier)

Step2:  Make sure the phones battery is at at least 80%.

Step3:  Download this file (Multi-Root-Installer_Final.zip)

Step4:  Copy the downloaded file to the phone's SD card 
           (don't extract the zip file) 

Step5:  On the phone go to Settings, then Applications then Development 
           and check USB Debugging.

Step6:  Turn off the phone

Step7:  While the phone turned off. Press and hold volume up + Home key
           + Power key at the same time until the galaxy y logo appears.
          
           Recovery mode should appear (if not repeat step 6 and 7)

Step8:  In the recovery mode interface select "install Zip from SD card"
           (Navigate using the volume keys for up and 
           down and home or power key to select, touch screen will not work)

Step9:  Select "Choose Zip from SD card" and select the downloaded zip file                from step 3.

Step10: Wait for the process to be completed.

Step11: Select "Wipe Data/Factory Reset".

Step12: Enable "Wipe Cache Partition".

Step13: Select "++++Go Back++++".

Step14: Reboot the phone.

To verify if the phone is successfully rooted, you should see a new application with a name "superuser".


PART 2 Unlocking the device

Now that the device is rooted we can now proceed in unlocking the phone.

Step1:  Download this file (GTBox.apk

Step2:  Transfer the dowloaded apk file to the phone's sd card.

Step3:  On the phone, browse the downloaded apk file using the 
           "My files" application and install it.
                 (you can also do this by using any file manager/file browser 
            apps or apk installer apps available in the playstore)

Step4:  After the installation, launch or open the "Galaxy Toolbox" application.

Step5:  Always grant superuser permissions (if the superuser window pop out)

Step6:  On the Galaxy toolbox interface, scroll down and check 
           "Yes, I'll take the risk" and tap "Let Me In!"

Step7:  On the main menu tap "Backup EFS partition"

Step8:  Tap "Save"

Step9:  After that it will go back to the main menu. Tap "Network unlock".

Step10: And finally, tap "Unlock my Galaxy!

Congratulations!!!  Your device should now be unlocked. Test it by inserting a sim from different network provider.
